Book Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

While skimming through bookstagram’s photos (Instagram profiles), I kept seeing photos of a book series. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass and I though hmmm…everyone is giving this a great review and say they absolutely loved it. Well, low and behold, I decided to jump in the bandwagon and purchase the first two books of The Selection Series; The Selection and The Elite.

I must say, I am GLAD I purchased these books. I’ve read the first book in just a day and a half. Now, I’m currently reading The Elite and already I’m half way through it. I can’t seem to put it down. If that says anything about a series, than stop reading and purchase the whole series…wait. Wait, until after you read this lovely review though. lol

Let’s get started…

5 out of 5 stars

I’m in LOVE with the cover. Aren’t You??

First and foremost, if you love dystopian romance novels then this is your ideal book! Love Hunger Games but too much blood? This is the less, LESS bloodier sister with a mix of speed dating.

We meet America Singer in the far future after The United States (Illea) have been invaded. This world is split into eight castes. Eight being the lowest and One being royalty. America, a five, is a, as you probably guessed by her last name, a singer. Her family is compiled of artists, musicians, painters, sculptors, and singers. This year, The Selection will take place to find a bride and future princess/queen to Prince Maxon of Illea. Since America’s family are very poor and living on scarce food, America’s mother wants her daughter to place her name in the Selection and hopefully will be picked to “compete”, and I use the word compete very loosely, for the affection of Prince Maxon.

But America’s already in love, with Aspen, except he is of a lower caste than her (Six). That would not fit well with her parents, if they knew. She does not want to place her name, but does so to help out her family. In the end she is selected and the tug of war of hearts commences.

A great and awesome read! You will not place this book down or the others in the series. Find below the links to both The Selection and The Elite as well as Kiera Cass’s website for updates.
